Potential
I have been told by many people that I have "A lot of potential." Now, even though I take it as a compliment, it got me thinking. As I said, I have been told over and over that I have a lot of potential, but never that I have reached my potential. So, here's my question: Is it possible to reach your potential, or is the phrase just something people say?
Though the phrase is generally a compliment, it can be processed as either a positive or a negative statement. In the positive way, one can see this statement as meaning that people believe in you and are encouraging you to keep going when life gets you down. In the negative way, one can see this statement as meaning that you are not living up to your potential and need to do better. Why am I writing this post? Because every time I am told that I have a lot of potential, I wonder what the true meaning behind the statement is.
I tend to follow the negative way of thinking. Whenever I have been told this, it is generally because I did not do as well on a test, paper, or didn't study as much as I should've. Granted, I know that I have placed a lot on my plate and I am only human so I have bad days once and awhile. But that still leaves the question, what does "You have a lot of potential" mean? Can a person really reach their potential, or is it just an unachievable dream? What do you think?

I Know
I know every door, window, and room in your house.
I know where every poison item is in your house.
I know the quickest way to get to safety from any room in your home.
I know what room your child is in at all times.
I know what your child is doing at all times.
I know what cartoons and movies your child likes to watch when she is not feeling well.
I know what your child’s favorite food, snack, desert, and candy is.
I know that when your child is out of control it is because she is tired.
I know what friends your child likes to play with and which ones she would rather avoid.
I know what your child’s favorite and most cherished toys are, and why.
I know when your child will be hungry and how long it will take her to eat.
I know how long your child likes to play in the bath.
I know what pajama’s are your child’s favorite.
I know what books your child enjoys reading over and over, and those that she doesn’t like.
I know where your child’s glasses are when she loses them.
I know these things because I am an educated, degree completed, 22 year old child care provider and teacher. I am NOT a babysitter.

Not Going to CA
So I'm not in CA, like I'm supposed to be. I got on the plane and had a full blown panic attack. For those of you who don't know what that is like, it's basically the fight or flight response in overdrive. You hyperventilate, get light headed, break into a cold sweat, start shaking, your heart beats a milke a minute, and your body empties itself of anything it can in any way possible. Yeah, it's not a very pretty picture. So I had to get off the plane.
I've pretty much been crying to 2 days. I just want to be normal, is that so much to ask?

Spring Break!
So spring break officially started 17 minutes ago. However, the university shut down today due to a tri-system storm that hit us overnight and continues to pummel us with lake effect snow, wind gusts, and below freezing temperatures. The storm merged over the northern midwest and well, that would be us. It came from the west, the north, and the south. Fortunately for me, I'm going to California tomorrow! That is, I'm going to CA if my flight doesn't get cancelled.
All of the flights out of the airport here were cancelled today, and the storm is supposed to be diminishing overnight. So keep your fingers crossed that I will be able to make it to CA without having to stay overnight in an airport :) This will be the last post until I get back next Saturday or Sunday as I will be traveling all day tomorrow (3 hr drive, 9 hr flight, 1 hr layover) and I don't know if I will be logging on while I'm on vacation.
Granted, I do have a 10 page research paper to write and a 20-25 page take home exam to do while I'm there, but hey....I'm going to be on a plane for 18 hrs. total, as well as 4 hrs. in layovers, so I should have plenty of time to finish them both :)
Have a good week everybody!
